In the meantime is this wonderful article (and you do have to scroll down to get to the meat of it), but it’s a review of this book: Daily Rituals: How Great Minds Make Time, Find Inspiration, and Get to Work: How Artists Work.
I know, I know, sewists aren’t creative…well, yes, they are, and don’t make me come over to your home and start telling you how creative sewists are….so no more of that talk!
Anyway, back to the article.
Here’s a quick synopsis:
Be a morning person
Don’t give up your day job
Take lots of walks
Stick to a schedule
Practice strategic substance abuse (OK, how about just NO DRUGS!!!)
Learn to work anywhere
Some of these sound sort of stupid or like Duh! moments. And some of them sound downright destructive. The author tried a lot of these (including the martini lunch, which only lasted one day!!!), to do the research and even though I’m sure there are a lot of useless rituals, there are also a lot of good ones. There’s a lot we can learn from these, and some we can even learn not to do!
