classes

Classes are designed to be instructive and nurture your creative side.  So come prepared to have fun and move your creativity skills to a higher level.  Basic sewing skills are required:  how to operate your machine, sew a seam, press,  basic familiarity with patterns.  If you have any questions about your skill level, contact me here.  I do a beginner class so let me know (click above link) if you want to have a beginning session. You may select from the class title, or choose your own curriculum – you get to choose what you want to learn.  Click here for suggestions, but if you need special help or ideas, please contact Claire here.

June 20th & 21st – Sewing with Knits/Stretch fabrics – on your regular machine.  I like doing it on the regular machine cause I can get more detailed, like those detailed V neck corners in front are a cinch on your regular machine.  Come join me and learn about how to sew on this wonderful forgiving fabric, without any problems – yes there are some secrets to sewing on knits/stretch and once you know them, sewing on these fabrics will become a mainstay in your wardrobe – you’ll thank me later!!  If you need me to meet you at Helen Enox for some help in picking out fabric for this, LMK – texting is best (number is at bottom with signature).   10-4 each day $120.  Supplies: fabric, pattern, scissors (they have cutting pads and rotary cutters at the store), pins, sewing stuff, seam rippers, ballpoint or jersey needles and 2,5/70, 2,5/75 or 2,5/80 size twin stretch needle and any other sewing tools you like by your machine, and you’re regular sewing machine….it must at least zigzag and take double needle.

July 14th & 15th – Mannequin – This is one of the most popular classes I do cause once you have a mannequin of your body, fitting really becomes a very intuitive (that’s fancy for easy) skill.  You will need to order the kit, and the information is here.  LMK if you have problems with figuring out the size. I really do recommend you go up a size as it’s easier to pinch out than to release and then pinch out to fit.  You’ll be fit and stuff your mannequin and then bring a pattern or garment you want to fit for the last hours of class and I’ll help you through the first part of fitting.  10-4 each day $120.  Supplies, the mannequin kit (click here for information on how to order it and size info), sewing machine, supplies you need to sew with, seam riper, and something comfortable to wear you can slip in and out of to try on your mannequin.  Also wear a good bra and undergarments you usually wear.  You don’t want to wear your comfy bra for shaping your mannequin.

August 2nd & 3rd – Pants Muslin – Another favorite.  You will leave class with a well-fitted woven pattern for your pants.  You wil also leave class with a disk of variations (I’ll demo these in class), and zipper tutorials (also demoed in class) and pocket and other variations.  What I want you to have is a pattern that you can use over and over, cause making pants isn’t the problem – it’s the fit, and once you get that right, you’re in clover.  10-4 each day $120.  Supplies:  Vogue 1003 (use the size that’s closes to your hip size), muslin for a pair of pants (72″ need only your length – 45″ maybe 2¼ yrds), sewing machine, scissors (the store will have cutting mats and rotary scissors), tools you need to sew with, seam ripper, and wear something comfy below waist so you can slip in and out of your muslin as we’re fitting them.
