Not Sure If It’s A Dramatic Change Or…

…if there simply seem to be prettier styles…but more from Spring/Summer 2022. It could be the designers are sick and tired of moppy old, ugly, torn, shabby styles when suddenly pretty seems to be making a comeback.

Incredibly original and beautifully tailored suit. That pink-tuck/pleat starts just at bust and drops to the hem. This is a seam prime for altering. And of course the raised-waistline height button is perfect. Immaculately tailored as well.

As added interest there’s a sharp crease in the sleeve as well. Beautifully constructed.

From Maison Rabih Kayrouz

From Alaïa a new angle-zipper moto jacket idea.

I’ve been looking for a long time to some answers to a shawl collar attached to a wrap around the neck. This seems to be close. What I want is not “two” wraps, but one wrap on one side, while the other side simply buttons or otherwise hooks to keep it closed. In this stripe it looks particular couture. From Alaïa.

Sometimes couture is simply for couture only, but this design presents some interesting design principles that can really work some magic. This is a double-separating zipper that separates at the bottom, but zips up or down however the wearer would like it. I love the whole idea of the tailored top with the hoodie zipped bottom. From Paco Rabanne

Although this whole look is not for any of us, there are some ideas that are outstanding. The interplay between the inside-vest look with the side panel design is stunning. The collar as the contrast which is obviously the lining is another interesting feature. The rest is couture frou-frou and not for me or anyone practical – no forest of palm trees please! From Schiaparelli.

Another couture-proportioned look, but pared down and modified this collar is stunning. Love the white undercollar and the black over collar, and actually that could be as one piece, simply the collar inside is one color/pattern while the underside is another color/pattern. From Schiaparelli.

And here is a fabulous almost homage to Karl from Anna Wintour (chief editor of Vogue), although it features Virginie, Karls long-time assistant and her input into Chanel. As a side note it’s always fun to watch what Anna is wearing. She’s getting older and her clothes have to be sharpe, with-in, fashionable, but Anna also wears classic, timeless and respectable looks, that project her as a professional. There seems to be a lot to draw from out there. Hopefully this pandemic can give us a marvelous new sense of freshness and beauty to draw from.

Love your new dress. Your reflections on Marcy Tilton are spot on. I am shaped more like you so I have become more particular about what patterns I buy. I think a number of Marcy’s current designs would make fashionable maternity wear. I still have a waist, fit and flare works better for me. I look forward to your emails.

Thank you for the nice comments. Yeah, Marcy has a real gift that fortunately she shares prolifically. And she has a very keen editing eye as her fabrics represent. I love talking with the gals in the “Art Barn” when I find something I love and it begs for some equally fun to coordinate. They found the other two prints to go with this and having their eyes on the colors right there is so helpful. And they do not mind at all. I still have a little of each left, and of course, it’s calling to me too! I might do something simple like a yoke and then bottom with my core pattern. I love using this pattern so much and hardly anyone knows it’s the same pattern over and over again. That’s the real fun in all this!
